Introducing Cindy Matthews of Arrowdale Art Studio
PCAGOE feature
artist for Jan. 20 through Feb. 2
(Her work will be featured on our Facebook page throughout this time period.)
Cindy has been crafting and creating for as long as she remembers. She credits her mother as her first creative inspiration. Cindy says, "She (mom) was always "making do" and making a warm, inviting home with what was available or cheap! Even when such economies weren't strictly necessary, Mom still could make a little bit of nothing look like something wonderful. Because of her, my first instinct when I'm feeling creative is to use what's at hand first. Mom recycled before most people ever heard the word! From making salt dough clay to coloring, to those first awful collages using the Sears catalog and tablet paper, there's always been creating going on (for me). I even built my own Barbie house from stuff around the house - even bent my own wire hangers from that nifty copper wire Dad had on his workbench. Sewing, embroidery, collaging, decoupage, painting, and finally, most recently, polymer clay."
For Cindy, finding polymer clay as art medium was like coming home. She enjoys exploring the variety of techniques and possibilities the medium allows. And she credits the generosity of the network of polymer artists coupled with the availability of supplies via the internet as her basis for never getting bored.
