·         I really love the #1 necklace and also the blue vases, however the blue did not appear to have the metallic but they were my all round favorite of them all.

 

·         Kimberly Idalsky makes some of the most beautiful jewelry. I have a breast cancer bracelet, feather necklace and earring sets, a purple iris necklace and earring plus an orange lily necklace. She pays attention to detail and her items are just wonderful. On top of all that, she is a loving and giving person with a heart as big as Texas. Do yourselves a favor and order something from her. You will not be disappointed.

 

·         Tough choices as they are all amazing works of art... but my top three (Jill's necklace, Susan's vessel and Marie's switch plate) are the ones that I think best captured the feel of actual metal.

For this month's challenge our artists could use whatever method they wanted to achieve a "metallic" appearance as long as the piece contained 50% polymer clay. Take a look at the unique interpretations!

1 - Metallic Garden Necklace by Linda of NK Designs
This is my entry into the September Challenge for the Polymer Clay Artists Guild of Etsy. The topic is metallic so I used metallic gold clay for some of the flowers, metallic bronze and copper clay for the layers and copper leafing around the pendant. There also are copper findings and two matching beads along with Swarovski crystals in the necklace.

2.  Mixed Metal Vessel 129 by Sue of 11BOLDstreet 

For this "Metallics" challenge, I chose to layer bronzey-gold metallic polymer over a layered base. Mica powder was brushed over the stamped high points, and mica-tinted liquid polymer was brushed over black polymer areas to simulate aged, patina-ed metal. Rivets were added for fun :)
4 1/2" H.

3.  Industrial Chic Light Switch Plate by Marie of YoungCreative 
I love how the "soft and hard" marry beautifully in this piece. Each layer of the frame is an individually cut piece of silver clay, layered on top each other and then highlighted with a silver alcohol ink. The glass-like blue center is mokume gane with thin sheets of blue and translucent clay layered with silver foil. 

4. Metallic Themed Earrings by Jill of JKollmann
These are made from Sherry Serafini's "Arizona Sunset Earrings" tutorial, but with a polymer twist. The square capstone, the two cabochons, and all of the dangles are polymer clay. The dangles got the patina treatment. They are 4 inches long, excluding the leverback findings.

5. Copper Queen Necklace by Kathy of ElPasoClayNation

This necklace is made of Premo clay. The five 2 inch disks are embossed on both sides with pigments and paint. The smaller beads show the mica patterns of the clay itself. The necklace is 24 inches long.

6. Metallic Jungle Bracelet by Deb of RenGalSa

This is my entry in the September PCAGOE challenge - Metallics. I wanted to try my hand at Bettina's wonderful pixelated retro cane, so pulled out some old discontinued copper that I had been hoarding for a dark contrast to the gold and silver. With my leftovers, I made a Stroppel Cane and a metallic version of my magic swirl cane. I accented the joints with some 'stitched' gold rope. The shine is incredible!

7. Soldier Hoot by Line of PlaySculptLive

I've been noticing a lot of owls lately so I chose the owl for the Metal Challenge. He created his own expression but he reminds me of a soldier, standing guard and wondering what else could happen to him. He's cute.

8. RUSTic Knot by Beth of CreateMyWorld

For this month's PCAGOE Metallic challenge, I wanted to create a polymer clay piece that had the look of rusting metal. This chunky rusted knot pendant necklace was the result of my experimenting. The pendant is hung on an upcycled piece of jute cord that was harvested from an old nautical piece of jewelry, thus the varied colors in the jute which add to the rustic and old feel of the necklace.

9. Silver and Brass Pendant by Freda of FrekaK

This polymer clay pendant was made in a group with other clayers. The person in charge of the oven didn't watch the temp and my piece got slightly burned. I really like the mistake!

10. Mokume Gane Candle Cup with Lamp Shade by Angela of PolymerClayCreations

I used 4 different shades of purple, pearl metallic and transparent clay along with silver leaf to make this votive cup with matching shade.

They are all beautiful entries and wonderful expressions of your generosity & love! Every entry is a beautiful way to let someone know that you care. I wish I could have voted for more than three. I put #3 in the top spot because it has the most "rare" and unique look of all, as well as being very attractive. I voted for 10 because I agree with the artist that it conveys a happy feeling, and I love the ghost cane beads! Number 11 also got my vote because of the complexity of the pattern and because it seems to glow from within. It took me forever to make a final decision. Jackie Sieben is my grandma. These are cool bracelets! Thank you for donating them to the rare diseases project, that's so cool.

 

This month I based my top three choices on simply the ones that appeal most to my personal style: Deb's Blue Diamond's cuff, Angela's Blanket of Stars bracelet, and Jill's Blue Ikat Disk Bracelet. All of the entries are beautiful pieces and merit special kudos for supporting the 7000 Bracelets of Hope project.

 

My daughter is Kimberly Idalski and I voted from her link on Facebook.

For our annual "Charity Challenge" we chose The Global Genes Project, 7000 Bracelets for Hope, which provides bracelets for the rare and genetic disease community. Bracelets needed to be blue, in keeping with the projects color theme.

1. Blue Delft Bracelet for Hope by Lisa of HiGirls

Although my entire kitchen is filled with blue and white dishes, glassware etc, it took this "Bracelet for Hope" challenge to inspire me to work with these colors. Canework and molded tuilips and roping over copper cuff blank.

2. Ebb & Flow Bracelet by Arlene of Ashpaints

Rich shades of blue and sea green circle and flow on these handmade beads. Then the beads were combined with silvertone findings and multi-faceted silver glass beads to create a one-of-a-kind bracelet.

3. Blue Denim Liquid Polymer Cuff by Sue of 11BOLDstreet

PCAGOE Monthly Challenge - August: Utilizing my liquid polymer and fabric technique, I soaked denim with LP and cured it. Then, I added a polymer focal and back closure. Frayed edges are intentional :)

4. Blue Sugar & Torn Leather by Line of PlaySculptLive

7000 Blue Bracelets of Hope is a charity that spoke to me. They donate the bracelets to those who care for people with rare diseases. The beads I used were particularly fun to make, kinda look like torn leather. The glass beads are called sugar beads, one of my favorites.

5. Casual Blues by Beth of CreateMyWorld

This is my entry for the PCAGOE August 2012 Challenge for Charity - for The Global Genes Project. This bracelet was inspired by the gorgeous upcycled T-shirt material bracelets made by fellow PCAGOE member Marcia Palmer. I've used a band of upcycled T-shirt material and woven it together with some polymer clay beads. The lentil shaped bead is a blue polymer clay that was dyed with silk. And the other smaller beads were a neutral polymer clay color which I dyed with alcohol inks.... All in tones of blue. There is no clasp for this bracelet as it will just stretch to double up on the wearer's wrist.

6. Blue Ikat Disk Bracelet by Jill of JKollmann

Ikat clay in shades of blue, sheeted, and cut into disks in cup bezels, done for the 7000 Bracelets for Hope program of the Global Genes Project, which seeks to increase awareness of rare diseases and those who live with them.

7. Art Nouveau Bracelet by Marie of YoungCreative

I made this Art Nouveau inspired piece using small amounts of green and blue clay mixed with translucent clay and alcohol inks for a frosted appearance. The squares patterns alternate between a smooth and stamped mokume gane texured ones.

8. A Blanket of Stars Bracelet by Angela of polymerclaycreations

Bracelet made over a handmade ultra light clay form. I used premo pearl clay, pearl-ex mica powders, and alcohol inks.

9. Blue Stretch Bracelet by Linda of Claymation3D

PCAGOE August Challenge Blue Stretch Bracelet. All beads in various shades of blues are handmade by me. The silver bits are re-cycled from a second hand jewelry purchase. All are strung on jewlers stretch elastic for easy wear. This bracelet is being donated to: Global Genes Project.

10. Cha Cha for Hope Bracelet by Kimberly of Kidalski

My piece is a Polymer Clay Cha Cha bracelet, When I think of hope, I think of life and new life. Flowers :). So I created tiny polymer clay blue flowers with sculpted accents and details as beads, Then I made blue beads and covered then with a fun ghost cane for a cool effect. I made blue pearl like beads from polymer clay and filled it in with dark blue, light blue, and white pearls to make a full lovely cha cha bracelet. I finished it with a gorgeous flower lobster clasp and most important I added a Made with Love and a Hope charm at the end. Because that is what is important, Never give up hope. 11. Shades of Blue from Me to You by Cindy of ArrowdaleArtStudio

My entry into the PCAGOE Charity Challenge for the month of August. My bracelet is made entirely from Kato polyclay, using a soda can as my mold. The inside of the cuff is utterly smooth, doing this, btw. No sanding! :) Starting with a navy blend of clay, I gradually lightened the clay until I had 7 variations to nearly white, then blocked them together, offsetting each row and then back again to form the cane. The background clay is actually the blended scraps from the off cuts and leftovers.

The "from me to you," thing is partly to represent that this piece is being donated but also to represent the shading in the cane, light to dark, and all kinds of shades in between - just like people, whether by color or ideology or nationality or taste in music! :)
